David and Goliath

A young shepherd trusts God and faces a giant with a sling and a stone. A 2-minute animated story, told simply for children and families, with each verse from the King James Version.

1 of 8

The army of Israel and the Philistine army faced each other on two hills, with a valley between them.

And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.

1 Samuel 17:3 KJV

2 of 8

Every day a giant named Goliath stepped out and shouted at Israel’s soldiers. He was over nine feet tall, with bronze armor and a huge spear. Everyone was afraid of him.

And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.

1 Samuel 17:4 KJV

3 of 8

David, a young shepherd, came to bring food to his brothers. When he heard Goliath mocking God, he said, “I will go and fight him.”

And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.

1 Samuel 17:32 KJV

4 of 8

King Saul offered David his armor, but it was too big and heavy. Instead David took his shepherd’s staff, his sling, and five smooth stones from the brook.

And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.

1 Samuel 17:40 KJV

5 of 8

Goliath laughed at the boy. But David answered, “You come to me with a sword and a spear, but I come to you in the name of the LORD.”

Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.

1 Samuel 17:45 KJV

6 of 8

David ran towards Goliath, put a stone in his sling and let it fly. The stone struck the giant right on the forehead.

And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.

1 Samuel 17:49 KJV

7 of 8

Goliath fell face down on the ground. With God’s help the shepherd boy had won, and the Philistines ran away.

So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.

1 Samuel 17:50 KJV

8 of 8

David knew the victory did not come from his own strength. As he had told Goliath, “The battle is the LORD’s.”

And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give you into our hands.

1 Samuel 17:47 KJV
