John 14:27

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 14:27 KJV

What does John 14:27 mean?

Jesus spoke these words to his disciples at the Last Supper, on the night he was betrayed. He had just told them he was going away, and they were confused and afraid. Instead of leaving them a possession, he leaves them his peace. It is "my peace," the same calm trust in the Father that Jesus himself had, even facing the cross. "Not as the world giveth" means this peace does not depend on circumstances, and the world cannot give it or take it away. Then comes a gentle command: "Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." His presence makes that possible.

John 14:27 in the World English Bible

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.
