What is Psalm 31 about?
Psalm 31 is David's prayer for rescue from enemies, illness and slander. It begins, "In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust," and calls God a rock and a fortress. Verse 5 holds words Jesus prayed as he died on the cross: "Into thine hand I commit my spirit." David is honest about his grief, saying his life is spent with sorrow and his years with sighing, and that he feels forgotten "like a broken vessel." Yet he declares, "My times are in thy hand." The psalm ends with encouragement for others: "Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD."
