What is Psalm 3 about?

Psalm 3 is titled "A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son." David's own son had led a rebellion and driven him out of Jerusalem, and many said God would not help him. Yet David calls the LORD his shield, his glory, and the lifter up of his head. In verse 5 he says, "I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me." Even surrounded by enemies, he could sleep in peace because he trusted God. The psalm ends, "Salvation belongeth unto the LORD." It is often read as a morning psalm by anyone facing opposition or betrayal.
