Comforting Bible Verses

Everyone needs comfort sooner or later. A diagnosis, a broken relationship, a lost job or a lonely season can leave us searching for words that actually help. The Bible does not pretend pain is small. Its pages are full of tears, and Jesus himself wept. But it keeps returning to a God who comes close in our sorrow. Paul calls him “the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort.” The psalmist says the LORD is near to the brokenhearted and heals their wounds. Isaiah pictures God comforting his people as a mother comforts her child, and Jesus promised his friends that he would not leave them comfortless. These comforting Bible verses gather those promises in the King James Version. Read them slowly when the night feels long, send one to a friend who is hurting, or pray them back to God in your own words. You are not alone in this.
