Healing Scriptures

Few prayers are as urgent as a prayer for healing. Whether you are facing an illness, recovering from surgery, sitting beside someone you love or carrying a wound no doctor can see, the Bible has words for this moment. These healing scriptures describe a God who calls himself the LORD that healeth thee, who binds up the brokenhearted, and who came near in Jesus to touch the sick and restore the outcast. They do not promise that every prayer is answered the way we hope, and they do not treat suffering as a lack of faith. They do promise that God sees, that he cares, and that one day every tear will be wiped away. Read these verses aloud, pray them with a friend, or return to them during long nights. Please also keep seeking good medical care, which is one of the ways God provides for us.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most powerful healing scripture?

Many believers turn to Isaiah 53:5, Jeremiah 17:14 and Psalm 103:2–3. Their power lies in the God they point to rather than in the words themselves. Pick the one that gives voice to your own prayer.

Does God always heal?

The Bible shows God healing many people, yet it also records faithful people who stayed sick, including Paul’s friend Trophimus in 2 Timothy 4:20. Scripture promises complete healing in the life to come, as Revelation 21:4 describes.

What should I pray for someone who is sick?

James 5:14–16 encourages prayer, the support of the church and honesty with one another. Ask for healing, comfort, wise doctors and peace, and pray a verse like Psalm 41:3 over them by name.

Is there a Bible verse for emotional healing?

Yes. Psalm 147:3 says God heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds, and Psalm 34:18 says he is near them. Grief and depression are real, and a counselor or pastor can walk with you too.
