Frequently asked questions
What is a good Bible verse for the New Year?
Lamentations 3:22–23 says God’s compassions are new every morning, and Isaiah 43:19 says “Behold, I will do a new thing.” Psalm 65:11, “Thou crownest the year with thy goodness,” is a fitting prayer for the year ahead.
Does the Bible talk about the New Year?
January 1 is not in the Bible, but Israel’s calendar marked new beginnings. Exodus 12:2 calls the month of Passover “the beginning of months,” and the feast of trumpets in Leviticus 23:24 is linked with the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah.
Should Christians make New Year’s resolutions?
The Bible neither commands nor forbids them. Proverbs 16:3 encourages committing your plans to the LORD, and James 4:13–15 adds a humble “If the Lord will.” Goals made with prayer and humility can be a good way to grow.
What can I pray for the new year?
The priestly blessing in Numbers 6:24–26 is a beautiful New Year prayer: “The LORD bless thee, and keep thee.” Psalm 90:12 asks God to teach us to number our days so we gain a heart of wisdom.
