What is Psalm 24 about?

Psalm 24 celebrates God as the owner and King of all creation: "The earth is the LORD's, and the fulness thereof." It then asks who may climb the LORD's hill and stand in his holy place, and answers: the one with clean hands and a pure heart. The last section is a dramatic call: "Lift up your heads, O ye gates... and the King of glory shall come in" (verse 7). It may first have been sung as the ark of the covenant was carried into Jerusalem. Christians also read it at Palm Sunday and the Ascension, celebrating Jesus as the King of glory.
