Moses and the Red Sea

God parts the sea, and his people walk through on dry ground. A 2-minute animated story, told simply for children and families, with each verse from the King James Version.

1 of 8

God had set his people free from slavery in Egypt, and Moses was leading them through the desert. God went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.

And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:

Exodus 13:21 KJV

2 of 8

But Pharaoh changed his mind. He chased after them with his army and caught up with them beside the Red Sea. The people were trapped and terrified.

And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.

Exodus 14:10 KJV

3 of 8

Moses said, “Don’t be afraid. Stand still, and watch how the LORD will save you today.”

And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.

Exodus 14:13 KJV

4 of 8

Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. All night long, God sent a strong east wind that pushed the water back.

And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

Exodus 14:21 KJV

5 of 8

The sea split in two! The water stood up like walls on the right and on the left, with dry ground in between.

And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

Exodus 14:22 KJV

6 of 8

All of God’s people walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, all the way to the other side.

But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

Exodus 14:29 KJV

7 of 8

When the Egyptian army followed them in, Moses stretched out his hand again, and the water rushed back into its place.

And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.

Exodus 14:27 KJV

8 of 8

Safe on the other shore, God’s people saw what he had done. Moses and the people sang a song of praise to the LORD.

The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Exodus 15:2 KJV
